Individual Child/Adolescent CounselingChildren are growing and changing daily in a world that seems to be developing at the same pace. Sometimes, families experience changes as well through divorce, remarriage, or relocation. At CPC, we are committed to helping children, teens, and families through changes, difficult life events, and academic problems. We offer a variety of services including individual counseling, academic and educational assessment, family therapy, college and career counseling, and play therapy. Many parents ask, “How do I know when my child needs mental health services?” Often it is when you are able to identify a significant change in the child’s functioning. Are they withdrawing from family or friends? Has there been a significant decline in their grades? If you, as a parent, determine that a problem is affecting your child’s daily success in his or her social or academic world, then counseling may be able to help you and your child work through those problems. During the first appointment, your child’s counselor will likely meet with the parents alone. At this meeting, you can also chose to sign a release for your child’s counselor to talk to a physician, teacher, or guidance counselor for more information. It is CPC policy that we meet with, or speak to, both parents, even if parents are divorced. |
