Lori Newsom, MS, LPC-MHSP

Lori Newsom completed her MS in Counseling at the University of Memphis. Lori is a Licensed Professional Counselor who joined the staff of the Christian Psychological Center in 2023. Lori has experience working in several agencies here in Memphis. She has worked in intensive outpatient settings as well as in youth crisis response. Before becoming a counselor, she worked outside of the US for 11 years and also has experience as a teacher and guidance counselor in K-12 settings.

Lori is able to provide individual or family counseling. She sees adults for concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, co-parenting, domestic violence, grief, and anger/emotion control. Lori also specializes in counseling for children and adolescents ages 3+. Lori incorporates a family systems approach in her work with the goal of helping families establish a workable family dynamic in the face of challenges by addressing individual and family trauma, building trust, and enhancing communication. Lori can work with concerns of childhood trauma/neglect, depression, anxiety, ADHD, emotion control, grief, school issues, and other behavioral concerns. Lori is able to use a wide variety of modalities to help youth and families reach their goals. She is trained in EMDR, Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), play therapy, and Gottman Level 1 and Level 2. Lori is also a DBT-informed therapist.

When she is not in the office, Lori enjoys spending time outdoors, going for walks, and playing tennis. She also enjoys playing board games with family and friends.

She accepts some plans through BCBS, Cigna, and United Healthcare.
